While traveling recently, the loudspeaker at the Sacramento Airport boomed, "This is a common sense security announcement." I hoped the next sentence would be an alert to parents about how their rights are being removed by school boards across California, including in Modesto.

Our school board recently passed a policy that allows junior high and high school students to leave campus during the day for medical treatment, including to receive an abortion, and the school is not allowed to inform parents where their child is or why they left the campus. The vote was 4-3.

A final vote will be taken at the board meeting July 13. Parents, please contact your school board now and have your voice heard.

This policy is an assault on parental rights and threatens the security of our children. It places the responsibility for the health and well being of our children with government employees. Are you ready to turn over the responsibility for making critical decisions about your child's welfare to the government?
