I am shocked at the majority vote by you, the Modesto City Schools board, for "confidential medical treatment" for junior and senior high school students.

No student should be removed from a public school campus without the permission of their parents or guardians.

At the June 22 meeting, I listened to parents, teachers and even a high school counselor respectfully request that you uphold the rights of parents and not remove children from campus without the parent's permission.

I don't understand why parents have to plead with a school board (whom they elected) to be informed of their child's whereabouts.

I am aware that there are some cases of youths not supported by absent parents or are from dysfunctional families. However, there are social services to deal with these abused and neglected children.

Undermining the majority of parents is not an effective way to deal with the shortcomings of the minority. An overwhelming majority of children are in families where parents take seriously their charge to nurture the next generation.

As a taxpayer, I cannot imagine that you are ignorant of the huge financial liability the school faces if something were to happen while the student is off campus.
