Last year, I took a class offered by a state-licensed gun shop, and then applied for a concealed weapon license at the Modesto Police Department. A week later, I was denied a certificate to carry a weapon because of an encounter I had with a group of carjackers. I have a can of Mace in my car, but when three persons are demanding your car, that is hardly enough to deter them, and would only make them more violent.
I am 70 years old, and it is only fair for my wife and myself to have a way to protect ourselves, especially with all the gang problems and other problems. And we all know that when you call the police they can't respond in short notice.
The states that have made it legal to carry a firearm now have the fewest major crimes.
What's wrong with our city when they can't even protect us with a lot of police officers? I guess this is another way of saying, "the heck with the public. Just let them keep on paying their taxes," and good luck.
