The letters on Sept. 3 reflected the typical comments from the right, who regurgitate the liberal and socialist labels. Such responses are traceable to Richard Mellon Scaife's right-wing propaganda and the Heritage Foundation. Scaife donates billions for his messages of hate and condemnation through the right-wing talk shows. They are chicken hawks who were too cowardly to join the military in their 20s but became war hawks in their 50s. Sarah Palin delivered the usual canned speech with misinformation.

Free world nations understand the phony patriotism espoused by the Republicans. The brainwashed wave the flag, but patriotism stops there. However, the administration lacks support of our troops when they return from battle, refuses to endorse the GI Bill, is unwilling to establish the draft and implements a tax cut for only the top 5 percent during a war. Is there something wrong with this economic picture?

The Democratic platform supports reduced taxes for the vast majority. The Republicans have dramatically increased the bureaucracy under Bush, and during the Clinton presidency our government was reduced by more than 30 percent.

Currently there is no definition for victory. If the surge has worked, why are the troops still in Iraq?
