In the spirit of the new term "staycation," I would like to share a recent experience I had with some friends. I thought it would be fun to experience the trolley, so two of my girlfriends and I boarded the trolley in Riverbank and took the express route to Oakdale for an excursion.
The 15-minute ride took us to First and G streets. We perused the antique stores and had deli sandwiches and cookies at Moss Rose Bakery. It was truly pleasant. As we walked from shop to shop, we saw several details that would have gone unnoticed had we driven from place to place. We had fun pretending we were in a city far away, yet we were in our very own back yard.
When we boarded the trolley to return to Riverbank, I asked the driver how many riders there were on an average day. Twenty was her answer. It is sad that more people are not using this great service. The cost was $1 to Oakdale, with 25-cent transfer ticket back to Riverbank. It was well worth it considering the price of gas.
