Don't glorify cruelty of rodeos

last updated: July 11, 2008 04:16:12 AM

In regard to "Cowboy Capital? Two towns square off to see who can claim title" (July 6, Page A-1), I'd like to point out that rodeos should not be glorified and should instead be seen for what they are: a deceptive spectacle manipulated by man. Horses used in rodeos are normally anything but "wild" and buck only with the help of sharp spurs and bucking straps. The animals are left with broken ribs, bruised organs and other injuries; most are sent to slaughterhouses. As a society, we should not accept or condone rodeos.
