Regarding Rep. George Radanovich's article "Want lower gas prices? Unshackle those exploring for oil" (June 10, Page B-7): This kind of article is generally done by an industry lobbyist or public relations flack. Its quotes of oil reserves are highly suspect. The secretive Saudis never release their reserve information even to the American Petroleum Institute, for example. The API is a paid lobbyist group pushing traditional oil drilling and exploration initiatives for the energy industries.
In fact, we do not know how much oil there really is. There is no independent source for identifying oil reserves. Does the anyone believe the U.S. government statistics? They get their information from the API.
This legislator blames high prices for oil not on industry gouging, but on "ambivalence in drilling" by the American public and the Democratic Party. He blames "overzealous environmentalism" in blocking development of our energy security. He blames everyone except his own party, which has been the partner of the energy monopoly for more than 10 years. He is just another pitchman for this monopoly.
I am tired of these tactics. There really needs to be a change.
