Californians are paying more for eggs than ever before, thanks to factory farmers who are recording their highest profits ever at the expense of animals and consumers alike ("Initiative breaks too many eggs," May 10). Shocking video shot inside a Turlock egg farm showed egregious acts of animal cruelty as well as the inhumane living conditions endured by animals inside giant confinement facilities. Instead of putting its profits toward providing some semblance of better welfare for hens -- who suffer their entire lives crammed together inside small wire cages -- Gemperle Enterprises continues with business as usual, supplying millions of overpriced eggs per week to NuCal Foods, the top in-state contributor to the campaign to defeat the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act in November.

Don't be fooled. Vote "yes" on the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act to help protect animals from the extreme abuse of intensive confinement. Learn more at www.HumaneCalifornia.org.
