I am an inmate in the Stanislaus County Jail. For the last three years I have been including short biblical Scriptures or Christian phrases on the envelopes of all my outgoing mail. It has been neatly placed in the lower left-hand corner on the front. Now, all of a sudden, I am told I can no longer do so. That it is against the rules. I am confused! You can write "Legal Mail, Attorney Client Confidential," but not "Jesus Is Lord"?
I understand not wanting gang-related sayings or vulgar words. It is downright scary that the Sheriff's Department considers Scripture to be in the same category as gang sayings, profanity or vulgar quotes.
