Speaking as a mom, graduate student and community member, I feel fortunate to have access to a resource as valuable as the Stanislaus County Free Library. I know others in our community feel the same, because voters have continued to pass the sales tax levy that covers 85 percent of the costs to run the library.
That's why I was disheartened at the recent announcement of the library's budget woes. The financial situation makes it clear to me that now more than ever is the time to support our community library.
To find ways to help, contact your city's nonprofit Friends of the Library group or the Library Foundation. (See listings at http://stanislauslibrary.org, click on About the Library, then Friends of the Library; or www.stanislauslibraryfoundation.org.)
By participating in a few simple ways, you have the opportunity to invest in the library's success.
