Why is the Modesto Irrigation District lobbying against clean, renewable energy instead of embracing it ("MID: Initiative has dark side," Feb. 29, Page B-3). Meeting with Rep. George Radanovich to stop aggressive renewable energy targets is not what the public wants. We want renewable energy ASAP.

I would like MID to build on its hydro power along with solar and wind power. In one of the sunniest places in the world, why doesn't MID build a solar farm? Invest in the future instead of hiding from it. MID General Manager Allen Short's joke, I think, about buying stock in Pier 1 due to increased candle use is in bad taste. Everyone knows that the main cause of global warming is energy consumption.

Let's get some proactive leadership at MID. It's in all our best interest.
