Why doesn't the right understand?

I do not understand the resistance to global warming by the political right. Ninety percent of the world's leading scientists believe in global warming, yet this idea has been rejected by most conservatives. They take every opportunity to ridicule Al Gore. The Bush administration has never favored reducing air pollution.

A Christian once told me that he believed in God because his choice was to believe rather than take the chance of being wrong and paying the penalty. In the next breath he said he did not believe in global warming. There is enough evidence to support the idea of global warming, so I wonder why he would take the chance of leaving a dying planet to his children and grandchildren.

The only reason I can see why some people are against acknowledging global warming is greed. Fixing the problem would interfere with profits. Destroying the planet for selfish gain is the worst of sins. There is nowhere else to go.
