Citizens from the West Side have voiced their opinion that the West Park proposed business park based on short-haul rail is a bad idea. Thank goodness our officials in Patterson and Newman listen to our voices.
We are not against bringing jobs to our county or economic development. In fact, we support the idea of a business park at Crows Landing. We feel the supervisors made a very poor choice. The supervisors selected a developer with no experience owning or operating a business park over Hillwood, whose main business plan is to own, build, operate and manage business parks. The Bee supported the plan proposed by Hillwood and in its editorial ("Kamilos deserves support in pursuit of state funding," Nov. 9) stated, "We're still skeptical that West Park can deliver the short-haul rail-inland port project."
The Port of Oakland states that short-haul rail is not financially feasible today and called West Park's proposal an "idea whose time hasn't come yet." It was a bad decision to choose inexperienced West Park to develop an asset owned by the citizens of Stanislaus County.
