Many seem to think “the city” is a sinister monster out to get us: “The city is lying about how it intends to spend Measure G taxes” ... “the city over compensates its employees and retirees so they will dutifully carry out the city’s hidden agenda.”
I get so tired of hearing about what “the city” is supposedly trying to do to us. Maybe I am naïve, but do you really think “the city” has a secret agenda designed to line the pockets of elected officials and their financial sponsors? Really? That might have been New York 150 years ago, but I don’t think that is happening in Modesto today.
If you really think Tammany Hall is alive and well, tell us which public officials and city employees are “on the take.” Be up front so we can throw the scoundrels out in the upcoming elections.
I challenge everyone who objects to something “the city” has done or is trying to do to say exactly who is doing what. Instead of blame, focus on the policy, regulation or ordinance that is wrong or being improperly or unfairly applied.
Never miss a local story.
Don’t just cast stones; suggest a better idea.
