Re “Con: It will give City Hall a blank check to spend” (Page 1B, Oct. 14): It doesn’t surprise me that Janice Keating would use phony statistics to oppose the Safer Neighborhoods Initiative. Keating must have read the book, “How to Lie with Statistics.” She included what school kids earn (nothing) and what senior citizens make in comparison to what Modesto City employees earn.
I recall from Bee stories that when Keating ran against Kristin Olsen, she actually charged taxpayers for her mileage to drive to city hall. Amazing! Mayor Garrad Marsh started reporting these expenses and implemented the policy that every three months all elected and leadership-staff expenses are published.
Cast your vote yes for a safer Modesto. Don’t believe the statistical lies. Vote yes on G.
