Re “Guns give us a fighting chance” (Letters, Oct. 20): I am a life member of the NRA, and I know that the organization does not condone gun violence, as some believe. We are fighting to save the Second Amendment from change and being deleted from the Constitution. I agree with the letter to the editor. If we, as citizens, give up our guns then who will have them? Three groups, and only three groups: The police, the military and the bad guys!
The U.S. needs background investigations on everybody. I submit that we take a hard look to see how we can protect ourselves! We need that fighting chance. I am going to get my permit to carry a concealed weapon, and will protect my wife and family. If guns are taken away from us, something else will take its place – like bats, golf clubs, knives or anything handy at the time. The police are doing a great job with what they have to work with. They are understaffed; we need to agree to raise taxes, to hire more police. People kill people, without that person behind the gun, it is nothing but a cold piece of steel. Defend yourselves; it is your right.
