“Well, what do ya know, I buried the lead” – Albert Brooks, movie Broadcast News.
In reading the front page of the Oct. 2 Modesto Bee, I saw the story “Attorney ordered out of court.” As an attorney, I was interested to know which attorney had been forced out of the courthouse, especially out of the Bankruptcy Court, and especially the old Bankruptcy Court building – as the picture above the headline indicated. Whoops.
When I turned to page A3, as directed, I found the story “Hearing scheduled in Kauffman case.” It was not until the story ran from Page 8A that I got to the most important part. The rest was sort of interesting, but not as interesting as the headline on Page 1A. What happened to this newspaper?
Michael Abbott, Modesto
Editor’s note: The story actually began on Page 3A; the portion contained on 1A was a synopsis directing readers to the entire story. The hearing was conducted in the old Bankruptcy Court building.
