I was surprised to read that PETA objects to our Animal Shelter’s T-N-R (Trap, Neuter, Release) program for what we call feral and what the animal shelter calls community cats. I have driven through Kansas and seen “Cow Concentration Camps”: those are certainly worthy of PETA’s attention. The animal folks here, in my experience, are kind, gentle and caring persons dealing with an overwhelming issue – and this from a woman who lives in a condo complex plagued by community cats.
I have deported 10 full grown cats and eight kittens to the shelter on the theory that their lives will be better there than they will be here trying to eke out an existence, given the competition. There has been much community advocacy here for a “no-kill” shelter; people simply cannot have it both ways.
