Covered California makes you pay for “coverage” even when you are not really covered. My son applied for coverage in June. He was instructed he had to wait until July 1 to apply and was told the application would take two to three months to process. He called every two weeks to check the status. On Sept. 23, he received letter dated Sept. 18, saying coverage is approved and that it started on July 1. He has to pay almost $900 for July, August and through Sept. 18, even though he was not “covered” during those months and no services were available to him. We called Covered California and were instructed we can decline the coverage and reapply for a new start date, but the process would be the same. You have to pay for “coverage” during the waiting period, even though no services are available! And this is supposed to be for poor people! What a rip-off!
