Re “County seeks psych records” (Page A1, Sept. 16): I was appalled several months ago when I first read that Stanislaus County was trying to blame Glendon Engert, Bob Paris and Mike Glinskas for the ambush shooting perpetrated by psycho Jim Ferrario. Ferrario, a known nut job possessing military assault weapons, which he never should have been allowed to own, killed Engert and Paris before turning his weapons on himself.
Now the county’s lawyers have compounded this travesty by demanding Engert’s mental health records. These records have no relevance, and if the court grants this subpoena, I can only hope Engert’s doctor has the courage to refuse. This is a clear abuse of power in a miserly attempt to avoid paying out for the liability the county has in sending these three men out to evict someone who was known to be unstable and overarmed.
I support the families of the victims in this tragedy, and I implore other right-minded people to join in calling on the the county to stop this nonsense, settle the suits fairly and direct this energy toward stopping the proliferation of needless weapons in the county and beyond.
Never miss a local story.
