In science fiction, shape-shifters are interesting characters who can easily change their appearance. Local politician Jeff Denham is apparently an authentic shape-shifter. When in Washington he’s a “representative” whose political and legislative views appeal to some but are opposite to the views held by the majority of the American people.
During election time he becomes a “local farmer,” digging his hands into the soil like the hardworking farmers who live here. Sometimes he’s a “small-business owner” striving to protect his profits from government interference such as worker safety laws and minimum wage increases. He becomes a “veteran” when seeking veteran votes, and appears as a friend of Latinos when talking about immigration reform, knowing his GOP colleagues are not eager to support reform efforts.
At times he’s an advocate for senior citizens, claiming Obamacare will steal money from Medicare Advantage and he will work hard to prevent that from happening – oops, fact-checking reveals the money-stealing claim is not true, even though Republican buddies Paul Ryan and John Boehner dispense the same false information.
Though we may be impressed by Denham’s shape-shifting skills, some of us hope to see him assume the shape of “former congressman.”
