Lindsey Barth: Cops need military-grade gear

I have two family members who are police officers. Most police officers have a deep commitment to protect the public from sinful, wicked people who want to hurt others.

I have two family members who are police officers. Most police officers have a deep commitment to protect the public from sinful, wicked people who want to hurt others. In order to do this, and protect their own lives, they need to use military gear because some of the evil, wicked people they deal with have guns that are like military weapons and some even have body armor. Many of our police officers have families whom they want to go home to after their shift ends.

They are highly trained at the police academies. They do the best they can to avoid escalating conflict, but some wicked people want to engage them anyway. Police are authorized by the government to protect the public. When people challenge the authority of the police, the police must respond for the sake of law-abiding citizens.

I don’t understand why some people have a knee-jerk reaction that the police are wrong before all the evidence is in. Every 3.5 days a police officer is killed in the line of duty. It seems that some people want the police to lose their lives rather than the sinful, evil, wicked people.
