Bob Dunbar: Modesto was the star

The North Modesto Kiwanis Club was honored to be asked to partner with the city of Modesto to help bring the SuperKart USA Modesto Grand Prix to our city. After many months of work and planning, the event took place. Virtually every one of the nearly 10,000 spectators thought it was awesome.

The undertaking was huge. SKUSA, the city, the Kiwanis and hundreds of volunteers stepped up and made it happen. Like any large public event, there are hundreds of details that need to be addressed. And like any new process, many things need to be re-addressed. This will be done. This event was the most spectacular event that has come to Modesto.

Our city has been on many negative “lists.” The Modesto Grand Prix demonstrated that Modesto can rise to meet huge expectations and be successful. Working together, the city parks department, the Police Department, the Downtown Improvement District, many sponsors (large and not so large), and hundreds of volunteers made Modesto shine. Congratulations to all.

Bob Dunbar, North Modesto Kiwanis, Modesto
