Dear Rep. Jeff Denham: I understand you are interested in the federal rules governing “Americans with Disabilities Act.” I believe California was the first state to write laws covering ADA. I believe there were two things our law was designed to accomplish: to help citizens with disabilities to get out of their homes and enjoy life, and, secondly, create minimal expense to cities and the community. That’s why our our laws are so different from federal law on the same subject.
I believe those who benefit from the ADA are a class of citizens. The law should cover the whole class, not enrich just one person per complaint. These laws are not all clear, so it seems the complaint should allow a reasonable time to comply rather than result in a civil suit right away. You should also read the article from The Bee “Wave of lawsuits reaches county” (Page A1, June 22).
