Richard Juarez: Denham protecting Advantage plans

I am pleased to hear that Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock, is trying to eliminate the massive cuts that are harming the Medicare Advantage program. The Affordable Care Act stipulates these cuts be rolled out incrementally, meaning our plans will be increasingly (and negatively) affected by the funding reductions with each passing year. Millions of senior citizens count on Advantage plans to provide health care that we can afford, so it’s crucial that Congress keeps program funding intact.

My Advantage plan is serviced through AARP and United Healthcare, and I’ve been very happy with it. I take medications for diabetes, as well as some to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol. These are not optional, so I’m relieved my prescription co-pays are reasonable. Unfortunately, I expect this to change for the worse if the Obamacare cuts are not reversed.

Rep. Denham is taking the right stance on this important health care issue. We need to encourage him, and all members of Congress, to take legislative action that reverses the damaging cuts to the Medicare Advantage program.

Richard Juarez, Manteca
