Victor Costa: Eggman will work for young people

As a former member of the Associated Students of Modesto Junior College, I traveled with fellow MJC students last October to attend a conference in Washington, D.C., to advocate for increases to Pell Grants and financial aid to Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock.

As a former member of the Associated Students of Modesto Junior College, I traveled with fellow MJC students last October to attend a conference in Washington, D.C., to advocate for increases to Pell Grants and financial aid to Rep. Jeff Denham, R-Turlock. When we arrived, a number of congressmen, including Denham, had shut down the government. Our conversation only lasted 10 minutes, resulting in vague guarantees from Denham and a quick photo op before he was ushered away.

Several months later, Denham voted to slash Pell Grants and to dramatically raise the interest rates on student loans. Denham is more interested in taking pictures than making sure his constituents can improve their educations and lives. That’s why I am working on behalf of Michael Eggman. He will be the voice for young people that we need.

Victor Costa, Turlock
