Several weeks ago on a kayaking trip from Knights Ferry to the Orange Blossom bridge, I picked up over 100 cans and bottles. I could have picked up more if I had more room. Many of the beaches along the way were littered with bags of trash and broken styrofoam ice chests. Today, I went to a beach area by Lovers Leap and picked up six bags of trash. The river is trashed and whatever the Army Corps of Engineers and the rafting companies are doing about it is woefully inadequate. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been spent improving the river for salmon, but too many people are only too happy to trash it.
