Where have all the flowers gone? Cultivation of the opium poppy has been the mainstay of Afghan economy and culture for years. According to a recent report, the United States has spent $6 billion trying to eradicate the poppy since we went to war there. And now, as we are withdrawing most of our military forces, there is more opium being produced there than ever before.
Just what is the United States official policy regarding opium cultivation after we have left?
Will taxpayers be subsidizing this operation? Why is it that we don’t read more about this in the media?
