Tom Cosentino: Trees blocked drive, had to go

Enough is enough! With all due respect to the writers of the letters (“Sad that trees were removed,” July 30 and “What happened to beautiful trees?” July 27), regarding the removal of the trees at the old Scenic Nursery site, there was not another option for the entrance to the site. The driveway must be a minimum distance from the corner of Scenic and Coffee; unfortunately, it was where the two trees were.

I’m sure some would prefer that residents of Modesto have to drive by an overgrown weed bed with dilapidated, graffitied and rat-infested structures. But thank goodness there are people like Steve Mort who are willing to invest their hard-earned dollars in revitalizing the vacant trash heaps in town. The site will soon be the beautiful new home of one of Modesto’s best and most generous businesses, Don’s Mobile Glass. Thank you, Steve, and all the owners and employees of DMG.
