Susan Robinson: What happened to beautiful trees?

I was sickened and heartbroken when driving down Scenic Drive. Whoever is developing the former Scenic Nursery has clear-cut everything on the property, including two very large, very old trees. One tree was at the side of the property and was a slow-growing Ginko; it must have been over 70 years old. The other was a very large pine or fir at the entrance. Both trees could easily, easily have been designed around in redeveloping the property.
Who is responsible for this travesty? These must be the same profiteering developers who have for the last couple of decades turned much of Modesto into the ugliest city in California.
