I am a combat veteran of Vietnam. I have been under Veterans Administration care since about 2009.
In all of that time I have always been scheduled for appointments within reasonable time frames. Care by my physicians has been personal, effective and complete. The staff at Palo Alto, Livermore and especially here in Modesto has been personalized.
The staff knows my name and uses it. I lack for nothing with our local and regional Veterans Administration.
According to a report, there are issues of deep concern, some involving death. Could it be a lack of funding by Congress for doctors, nurses and other staff?
If Congress votes to move some or all of the VA care to private practice, have we really solved the problem?
Research indicates private care is more expensive, less effective and less personalized.
If we are going to put more money into the care of veterans, why not provide more medical personnel for the VA?
We maintain direct oversight and do not have to create an additional public watchdog for another arena.
