Regarding “Where do you think Syria got poison gas?” (Letters, May 21): I can’t say whether we attacked and occupied Iraq because of oil. But the writer claimed it was in retaliation for Saddam’s support of the 9/11 attack. What if Pakistan, Iran and Palestine had been supportive of the attack? Should we have attacked them as well? It would be a rather poor reason for going to war. Bush told Bob Woodward twice to blame it on Iraq. Woodward returned twice and said “I can’t. Iraq had nothing to do with it.” A few years later, in a rare moment of honesty, Bush answered a question by saying “Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.”
And I cannot help wondering why Bush sat for 17 minutes after being told the first building had been hit, not moving until the second was hit. I think any other president would have been out of there in less than a minute.
