I am so disappointed when people I consider reasonable and intelligent do stupid things. The editorial on May 9 ( “Climate change is here, and now”) is an example. The examples of “climate change” are just weather events. Have we had dry years before? Of course; 1977, 1978 and 1979 come to mind. When we have dry years there are more fires and less water in the reservoirs.
This is an example of people reaching to use normal events to push the idea that humans can impact climate. Around the year 1000 the earth was warmer than it is now. Why did that happen? Was it human activity?
During the 1600s to 1800s the earth was cooler than it is now. Did humans cause that? Over the last several million years the earth experienced at least seven ice ages when much of the Northern Hemisphere was covered with glaciers. Were humans the cause?
People with some knowledge of physics, natural science and history know the earth’s climate is the result of the energy output of the sun and the variances in the earth’s orbit plus the effect of volcanoes and large rocks hitting earth. “Human-caused climate change” is the fantasy of people who reject natural causes and/or wish to impose their will on their neighbors.
