I hope the Strawberry Music Festival organizers will refrain from tying themselves and the San Francisco Parks and Recreation Department up in conflict and litigation over the cancellation of the 2014 festival. The Rim fire was an epic disaster of no fault of Parks & Rec. It is with grateful thanks to the department’s employees, the San Francisco Fire Department and many other agencies that we can even consider having a festival again at all.
Comparing the festival use to that of Camp Mather, “Hopes for Strawberry, 2015,” is not equivalent in terms of numbers, logistics and complexity. And we will not be out of fire danger for at least another calendar year from now.
Strawberry Music Festival fans should push up their sleeves and ask what they can do to help get the event back on in 2015. Let’s work together with the city to make Strawberry 2015 happen.
