As corduroy rows of almonds blanket more and more acres of our valley, it is obvious that the farming of almonds is very profitable. This makes almond growers good neighbors because they increase our tax base and help grow our local economy. I am certain our almond-growing neighbors know that respiratory illnesses such as asthma and valley fever are increasing in our bathtub-shaped valley. I am confident these good neighbors are investing some of their profits into farming practices and equipment that will contain the dust produced on their property during harvest. With this confidence, I can feel happy when I see yet another field becoming blanketed by corduroy rows of almonds.
