I was a teacher of Ceres children for 21 years. I worked with dedicated professionals whose passion and commitment to children meant working long hours and investing their own money.
In 2009, Ceres Unified School District employees were forced to take an 8.5 percent pay cut. Four years later, the cuts were restored, bringing teachers back to the salary schedule of 2008.
After seven years with no raises, teachers want salaries that reflect the rise in the cost of living. The district is offering far less and refusing to reconsider.
Many of these same people have received raises every year since 2010. Ceres teachers have sacrificed to help the district. They deserve the respect and fairness of legitimate negotiations.
