Regarding the letter “Pope needs help from the disillusioned” (April 2): Under the current structure of the Roman Church, the pope has full authority to make any changes he’d like. The apostle to the apostles was Mary Magdalen. Peter and most of the 12 were married. Early church leaders were men and women, married and single. If the pope won’t change such easy things which are biblically based, don’t expect him to change anything else.

In a few days I will be received as a full member into the Episcopal Church. In my time there, I have witnessed people in the pews having a full say in the operation of their church, the selection of their priests and even a vote in the selection of their new bishop, David Rice. Not only are the people warm and welcoming, and the clergy inspiring and accessible, the liturgies of the Word and Eucharist are just as rich as the Roman tradition since the Episcopal Church is also Catholic, but without a Vatican.

I no longer wait for reform – it already happened! I just needed to follow the Spirit to my new home, an Episcopal Church where all are welcomed.
