I’m proud to say I have been a nurse for Memorial Medical Center for 22 years and truly know the outstanding care provided to our community. I am also a proud member of Team Challenge of MMC, developed through Cancer Services for family and friends of those battling cancer. I run for my own health, those we have lost and those still fighting. It was great seeing approximately 90 Team Challenge runners/walkers in all the distances during the Modesto Marathon.
Local health care supporters included DMC, Sutter Gould, AMR, the offices of Dr. Staahl and Dr. Palitz. Along with Team Challenge, many MMC employees ran or volunteered – all committed to promoting health.
Where was MMC? I have been told it is a corporate decision to support, or not support, local events. I understand mergers to build better contracts, standardize care or share resources. I do not understand why MMC is not supporting local events, especially those that are health related. I wonder if Sutter Sacramento follows the same philosophy. As an employee, it was embarrassing. As a member of this community, it was sad. Memorial should be proud of Team Challenge and all who participated. Maybe next year you too will participate.
Never miss a local story.
