A recent letter (“ Don’t compare Arizona to Uganda,” March 4) decried the comparison of Arizona to Uganda in a political cartoon by Jack Ohman. Certainly the comparison is over the top; Arizona is not, and will not become, Uganda. And yet, as such satirical pieces often do, it contained a germ of truth. Those who are prone to acts of hate and aggression often feel that their acts are sanctioned when a government legitimizes prejudice and discrimination. Thankfully, this was narrowly averted in Arizona.
