Ted Elness: Wider bike lanes will get his vote

Battery power is well on its way to becoming a major factor in transportation. A little-wider bicycle lane can also serve as an emergency stop lane, or possibly an emergency escape route for police when all other lanes are blocked. Wider lanes, I think, enhance safety and, while increasing cost, are a sensible trade-off.
I don’t see this for freeways and expressways, by the way, where high speeds are normal. So, as a sure-to-vote senior, the tax increase that made these thoughts a selling point would definitely get my support.
