M.V. McAteer: Does Salida chamber covet Colony?

I am not writing to attack or criticize anyone. I am concerned about the fight to “Save Wood Colony.” While you do not want the Modesto Chamber of Commerce influencing the Modesto City Council in its annexation of Wood Colony, you are allowing yourselves to be influenced and led by the Salida Chamber of Commerce, whose mission is to promote economic progress and quality of life in a strong, independent and incorporated Salida.
FYI: George Petrulakis, land use attorney, is a member of the Salida and Modesto chambers. The Salida chamber has recently advised it is close to incorporation. Once incorporated, Salida’s chamber should have similar goals to those of Modesto’s, looking toward Wood Colony for possession of Highway 132. If annexation of Wood Colony is not its goal, is the Salida Chamber doing its job? It was the speaker for Salida, the Salida Chamber of Commerce and Wood Colony who stated, “border to border, united we stand!”
While I am against annexation and incorporation, take a step back and ask yourself: Is Wood Colony striving to remain unincorporated or setting itself up for annexation to Salida?
