Mayor Garrad Marsh: In your op-ed (“Mayor: Council acted to protect farmland,” Issues & Ideas, Feb. 9), you mentioned the land around Gregori High. What you failed to mention is that you put all of Salida back in your general plan. Salida made it clear we do not want to be a part of Modesto. The Salida Municipal Advisory Committee voted against it. Stanislaus County supervisors stood behind us as well. Each time you made a statement that our decision was premature; that Salida doesn’t know what it wants. The Modesto Chamber of Commerce took us out of the general plan only to be thrown back in at the final hour. I keep hearing you voted against it.
After everything that has been said and done, don’t tell me that wasn’t a staged vote. Salida and Wood Colony stood up and told you no. If the council is looking for a pat on the back for trying to save some of it instead of all of it, well you’re barking up the wrong tree.
