Bravo to the author of the letter “Executed prisoner got off easy” (Jan. 23). Twenty-something years of “3 hots and a cot,” appeal after appeal. “Cruel and unusual punishment”? Let the punishment fit the crime cannot be a more appropriate statement.
Bleeding hearts, take note: It could have been your wife, daughter, granddaughter. It’s things like this that keep me awake at night. To be honest, I used to have liberal beliefs. “Give him a break ... he made a mistake.” But age and common sense have opened my eyes. Sure, there are sometimes mitigating circumstances. I will bow to “substantiated truths,” albeit, proven in court. But with truth, there should be justice. Justice was served (better late than never). Tears have been shed (some for the wrong reasons). The Bible says “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” But, remember, it also says “An eye for an eye.”
