The story of Phil Robertson has really upset me. People want and talk about equal rights, but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, that isn’t the case.

You do not have to believe in gays and in gay relationships, but they still deserve equal rights. People should have a right to their personal beliefs. Gays should have a right to their beliefs.

I know I will hear arguments about killers, thieves, etc., having rights also. This is different because this type of thing takes away the rights of others with their actions. A gay couple does not take away my rights by loving each other and claiming tax benefits and having health insurance together.

Phil Robertson has a right to how he believes without being punished. He also should have been smart enough to decline to answer the question that was posed.

I have learned to just keep my mouth shut when a friend believes different than me. I change the subject to something we agree on. My friends have a right to their beliefs even when they are different than mine. When everyone feels this way, we will have equal rights!
