It is time to elect members for the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees. To become an effective board member, there is a lot to learn. Whatever outside expertise a candidate brings with them, educational leadership operations are unique. Federal rules, state rules, local board policies and administrative regulations as well as an eye toward educational learning and budget problems usually take a while to develop. That is unless you already have those skills.
Barbara Shook is such a person. Being a parent helps, but being a teacher, site administrator and district office administrator places her in an exceptional category. I cannot remember when we have had a person with those qualifications on our school board. She knows the community, the administration, the staff and the students well. The leadership Shook can provide is a quality one always searches for and seldom finds.
