Regarding “Dental centers face big cuts” (Oct. 19, Page A1): I, for one, am glad AB 97 is finally going into effect. Dental decay, especially in children, is 100 percent preventable. It certainly will become a priority when the parents of these children with rotting teeth are held responsible for the payments to fix such decay, instead of us taxpayers.
Medi-Cal already pays for these “underprivileged” children to see the dentist regularly. Why would parents wait until 14 teeth are rotting out of a child’s head to take him to see a doctor? Unbelievable! The soda and juice need to be replaced with nothing but water or milk, and teeth brushing needs to be done at least twice daily. It’s not complicated.
How much are these centers actually helping?
