I am the creator of I Street’s “The Paperboy,” the relief portrait of the Gallos in McClatchy Square and the “Chief Estanislao” fountain at the courthouse. I moved to Modesto in 1959, giving me a perspective on what Modesto was and should still be. I have a sincere wish and a vested interest that the courthouse be kept on I Street. From an artist’s perspective, the street is the core of the community. The courthouse, the Gallo Center, the old post office, the museum, the McHenry Mansion and the library are all on I Street, creating a boulevard of beauty. A new courthouse would add to that feeling of “core” beauty.

Please don’t move the heart of the city and the county to the street historically known as skid row.

I do have a question: What happens to the memorials and the Estanislao bronze sculpture when the courthouse does move?
