The office of Sen. Anthony Cannella has unfairly maligned the city of Modesto, which he purports to represent in the state Senate.
In cahoots with the Democrat leader in the Senate, Cannella introduced Senate Bill 7, a bill sponsored by unions that cuts off state funding for charter cities such as Modesto that set their own prevailing wage policies for city contracts.
An article in the Tuesday Modesto Bee reported the dismay of city officials about the increased cost of services now that Gov. Jerry Brown has signed SB 7 into law.
Responding to the city’s complaints, Jeff Macedo, Cannella’s communications director, claimed it was unfortunate Modesto did not play a greater role as the bill was debated.
Actually, the city of Modesto submitted a letter opposing SB 7 and was listed as an opponent on bill analysis. The Bee published articles and editorials citing the city’s opposition.
Perhaps Cannella would have noticed the most populous city in his district if it had disguised itself as a union lobbyist.
