The writer of “Time to print both sides of the story” (Oct. 11, Letters) says The Bee favors Democrats. Let’s see.
Since March, GOP leaders have repeatedly refused to go to the bargaining table with Democrats to iron out a budget compromise. Senate Republicans blocked even naming budget negotiators. After the government shutdown drew widespread negative reaction, House Republicans sought cover by picking out several photogenic and popular entities to fund. These votes failed. Meanwhile, the Senate and White House continued their push for normal, inclusive funding.
Next, House Republicans threatened to stop paying our nation’s bills. (That is, debts already incurred.) Even the Koch billionaires, indoctrinated against government as children, recently became alarmed that the radicalism they fostered and funded might lead to a default.
These happenings, plus many more, are readily searchable. I submit that The Bee’s editors, rather than taking sides, are simply telling the truth.
