Regarding “Foster Farms faces long road to recovery” (Oct. 12, Page A1): I am interested to know whether more attention could be paid to the conduct of resellers of Foster Farms chicken products from contaminated batches. After people were sickened by chicken purchased during a now rather suspicious clearance sale of products labeled with the USDA inspection batch numbers attributed to the outbreak, it is apparent that many such stores are happy to recover losses by incentivizing their sale at direct threat to the public health.
It is also apparent that at least in the store in question, they are unwilling to fairly address the breach of public trust. My experience when attempting to bring the poultry in for a direct exchange was handled very poorly. This does not seem to be behavior acceptable for any company licensed to sell food to the public.
